I just found this disappointingly popular statement on facebook and am posting it with my comment – for comment and debate! j.m.

John Macdonald The implications of this statement are: 1. That there is notalso a significant proportion of women whose nonesense is equally hard to put upwith 2. That relationship problems are solved by a ‘you change or I leave attitude’.Accordingly I consider this statement to be a reactionary, immature and knee-jerkform of reverse mysogyny -ie fundamentally sexist and in no way contributing tohuman development!

I don’t like Facebook, look at that!… I am on my tablet and the thing is rigged so that Facebook can’t be written in lower case letters.
Facebook is shallow, full of social profiling, dumbs down people, well, the list of “don’t likes” is very long.

You are almost certainly right about lots of things that are wrong about FB but the thing I posted was originally on some other network anyway. I’m just picking up on something – wherever it has come through that expreses a sentiment I find very unattractive – where women think its fine to generalise in sexist ways about men but not the other way round. I find it dishonest and reactionary. Why does it mater what network it came via?

You specifically say you say it on facebook and added your comment there.
Well, I think that women have been so marginalized, trivialized, made into sexual objects, violated and turned into “house wives”, so it’s only natural that there would be a backlash. Even the word: woMAN, has man in it!
Fundamentally, I do agree with you, though.
Reverse sexism is wrong as much as sexism is wrong.

Well yes and all these points continue to be valid but “backlash” never created new life only reproduced and reversed old death! Not every man is bad some are a lot better than some women. So lets look for truth and solutions that go for the kindness and gentleness not harsh backlashes. Think of that word .. derived from slavery… says it all!

It depends on context. As a stand alone it is stupidity. But with the right context I fully agree. I will never be treated lesser than I am because of my gender. I have enough respect for myself to stand up for myself.

I agree!… its just that when there is a generalisation against a gender or race etc it starts the diminishing again – the other way round!

Indeed. I try to find ways to tease both side. I think generalizations are fun if in the right context but can be hurtful in the wrong ones.
