The ten things NOT to say are most often said to people who are mentally ill!

Peter LockhartI’ve had a few of them. Sometimes people will say “Tiredness is normal, I feel tired as well”. They don’t have a clue what the tiredness associated with Fibromyalgia is like. Its why i don’t drive now unless there really is no alternative ways of getting somewhere. -
John Macdonald People who say things like this are the root of what Hitler relied on to gain power. We think of what happened as a German thing but actually the majority of people must have been pretty similar in essence to Brits. The root isthe put down that pretends to be supportive. Fake understanding hiding a steel fisted refusal to take seriously the hurt and suffering of the other. Much easier to mentally extinguish through a mindless remark. Add the ‘people’ claim to be friends. Personally I’d prefer enemies as you know where you are with them and there is transparant honesty!

Yes, this Government have a kind of “doublespeak” going on. Grayling and IDS talked about the Welfare Reform Bill as if it were a veritable gift to us. Meanwhile, those of us who are sick and disabled know the truth. ATOS are paid to strip people of their benefits, and so they do. People appeal and many win. The Government response? A recent Consultation document outlining removal of ESA basic rate whilst people await appeal, and a mandatory review, of NO set time limit from DWP. This could mean that the time between ATOS WCA , passed as fit to work, and appeal is years rather than months. Sick and disabled people ought not be forced to claim job seekers, since they are already deemed unfit for work by a qualified doctor. Many would have problems meeting the strict availability for work criteria and therefore would be unfairly sanctioned.
The Government have made a transparent attempt here to hide the evidence that ATOS and the WCA are unfit for purpose ( succesful appeals) by making it very difficult for those wrongly assessed by ATOS to get to the appeal stage. It is an appalling silencing strategy, and must not be allowed to happen in our so called civilised society.

I agree wholeheartedly! We have see the effects in mental health amnd of course the rise in hate crime against people with disabilities as a result of the press campaign in favour of the Condom government’s actions. Horrrible!

you can see so much about Societies by looking at how people who are vulnerable are treated. We have lost the right to call ours “civilised”.

Yes I agree but maybe even there is a problem with what is meant to be civilised in the first place ie Civil in whose eyes?
